Lent 2014

Let’s embrace the season of Lent in 2014.

Join thousands of people who are fasting, praying and serving God through acts of charity during this Lenten period from March 5th-April 19th.

Lent is a season of preparation before Easter. Forty days are set aside to reflect on Jesus Christ—his life, death, burial, and resurrection. These six weeks may include fasting, repentance and self-examination, prayer, moderation and sacrifice, and generosity.

While Lent is not a required custom from the Bible, the principles behind it are certainly emphasized throughout the Scriptures. Lent offers us a special opportunity to devote time to these important spiritual disciplines.

A Lenten Season of Justice and Compassion

Don’t let this season pass you by without remembering why Jesus came—to relieve the oppressed, to renew a world of despair into one of hope, and to give us freedom from our sins and a relationship with God himself. This Lenten season, why not set aside 40 days to journey into God’s heart for justice and compassion with this devotional?

We can examine our daily patterns, and experience sorrow for the injustices we have committed and for the compassion we have failed to give. We can pray more deeply for those who are suffering from injustice, and establish intentional daily acts of loving others through sacrificial serving.

May the next 40 days revolutionize your thoughts, attitudes, and actions toward each individual, each community, each nation crying out for mercy—for justice and compassion are not just words. They require action.
